How does the setup work?
You won’t need any additional tools. All you need is your smarphone, an Allen key, the mounting plate, Nuki itself and your physical key (all except your smartphone and your key are included in the Nuki package).
Nuki is installed on the inside of your door and can be set up within 2 minutes without further help. Take the screwing-plate, place it on the fitting and tighten the 3 screws on the plate with the Allen key. After that plug your physical key in the lock and put Nuki on the plate. An acoustic signal tells you that Nuki is now fixed to your door.
Afterwards you have to push the button on the front of Nuki for 5 seconds to activate the “pairing-mode”. This mode is signaled through smooth and slow pulsing of the LED-circle. You can now search for this Nuki on your smartphone, name it and use it immediately. As you can see, this whole process won’t take longer than 2 minutes and is as simple as possible.
Calibration
During the initial setup the Smart Lock calibrates itself and adapts to your door. If your door is for example designed to be locked twice, then the Smart Lock will also lock it twice.
To re-calibrate your Smart Lock later, tap on the desired Smart Lock in the Nuki app and enter the lock settings. Then go to “Manage Smart Lock”. Here you can find the option “Calibrate Smart Lock” to initiate a new calibration.
Batteries
The battery lifetime is strongly related to the number of locking procedures and also to the smoothness of the locking operation. In standby mode Nuki needs a minimum amount of power. Assuming an average of 8-10 locking operations per day, Nuki’s batteries will last for about 10 months.
At a power level of 20% Nuki will notify you via the Nuki App. So there is enough time to replace your batteries of your Smart Lock. In case you are not able to change the batteries in time, you can still use your existing, mechanical key
1) The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the Smart Lock. To open it, press the small lever in the arrow direction and take the battery compartment out of the Smart Lock.
2) Replace the batteries and insert the battery compartment back into the Smart Lock.
Uninstallation instructions
1) The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the Smart Lock. To open it, press the small lever in the arrow direction and take the battery compartment out of the Smart Lock.

Encryption
Nuki relies on state-of-the-art encryption methods which are also used for online banking and other smart home system. Your data will not be stored on our servers. With these safetey precautions your Nuki is protected from unauthorised access.
If you lose your mechanical key, you have to exchange your cylinder. But when you use Nuki, you just need to withdraw the access permission of your lost smartphone and generate a new permission for the new smartphone.

By swiping left or right you lock or unlock your door quickly. The default setting for swipe guestures is “intelligent”. Auto Unlock

You can activate Auto Unlock by tapping on the Smart Lock in your Nuki app and opening the settings of the lock. Then activate “Auto Unlock”.
You can still lock your door manually with the Nuki app or with the button or knob on the Smart Lock.
The Auto Unlock feature is in beta. We are working on making the Auto Unlock faster an better for you to have the perfect Auto Unlock experience.
Auto Unlock in detail
Auto Unlock works by combining GPS, Bluetooth and Geofences (iBeacons). With the GPS on your smartphone Nuki recognizes when you leave your home. When you approach your home again and enter a Geofence near the Smart Lock, the Nuki app begins to scan for your Smart Lock via Bluetooth. When the Nuki app can establish a Bluetooth connection to your Smart Lock within 20 minutes after entering the Geofence, your door will be unlocked automatically. The next Auto Unlock will only be triggered when you exit the Geofence and enter it again. So unwanted locking operations are avoided.
The Bluetooth range is about 10 meters. The range can be reduced by doors, walls and other interference.
Auto Unlock filter
For the case that you come home with your family or your friends, we included an Auto Unlock filter, so your Smart Lock does not perform numerous unwanted Auto Unlocks consecutively. If, within two minutes, several smartphones send Auto Unlock requests to the Smart Lock, only the first Auto Unlock will be performed by the Smart Lock. The other Auto Unlocks will be filtered for the next two minutes, to avoid unwanted locking operations.
